First affirmation on the holiness of Elise
Here is an excerpt from the letter; it is of paramount importance for the discovery of Élise's reputation for holiness:
Yes ! events have rushed. Doctor Roux, powerless to treat Élise, in the room since October 15, had asked me to take her to the Hospital in Auxerre for further examinations. It was around March 15th. She was to return for Easter, but her condition was getting worse. It was not possible, and on the 9th, in the late afternoon, she died in her mother's arms. The dismay and the emotion were unanimous, parochial and regional. Father Générat presided over the office and quoted some extracts from her letters (she wrote to him quite often because he had known her since the age of 11). She had given her life for the brothers ... and the nuns of which you are! The seminarian Gaston said to me: she takes her secret with her… (I suppose this life given). In a while (maybe a few years) I think we will publish a booklet: A Saint from us! I am sending you a notice written by the Curé of Châtel Censoir in his parish bulletin. In a while, you can return it to me. Thank you.
This parish priest was a prophet of the action of the Holy Spirit; 43 years later, Élise's texts will be discovered and her reputation for holiness, which remained intact in hearts, will once again be public.
