The Christmas Play 2024

The now traditional play took place before the Christmas Night Mass in Vermenton on Tuesday, December 24.

As all readers of our Messenger know, in 2024 the parish commemorated the 60th anniversary of the death of Elise Bisschop. However, on May 31, 2025, the parish will celebrate her 100th birthday. Since Elise, in addition to her unique love of Easter, also had a great love of Christmas, it was easy to find spiritual nuggets in her poems and letters.

The script was prepared by Maylis and Agathe of the Reigny family. With other friends, they prepared the sets filled with details that created a very "Élise-like" atmosphere.

Luckily, some children on vacation were present, making the play possible. The baby representing the infant Jesus, however, did not like being separated from her mother; she had to sit with him in the manger next to the child representing the Virgin Mary.

Texts by Elise Bisschop that were read at the Vigil:

"Since I am still in the hospital, I am taking advantage of this... vacation time to write to you once again... God knows when the parish will be able to reorganize and come back to life, now. It will be difficult to have the "joy of Christmas" under these conditions. Difficult, and yet, it must be possible.
God does not die, God does not abandon us. We will have to learn to find Him anyway in the silent church, but where He remains present in our soul. And try to be better and closer to Him than ever, to repair, to compensate. »

Letter of Elise

Happinesses, all clear and pure, blending well together:
It is snowing… it is Christmas: their joy fills our hearts.
Around his cradle the Child-God gathers us,
He speaks with the fresh voice of these joys…

You say, my Jesus: “I came to earth
To make myself the friend of all the unfortunate,
To carry in my arms the world and its misery
And pull them towards me, coming down near them…

Did the snow fall on your poor shelter?…
O Jesus, I know well that for poor people
It is sad, it is cold, it is hard and cruel.
I could never hate it, yet…

Have pity, my God, on all those it pains…
For me, deign to make me a soul of clarity,
Which remains wide open to joy, and understands
Also all pain, grows in charity!…

Poetry “Christmas Snow”

"May God grant you to possess the joy of Christmas and to communicate it to those, sick or colleagues, whom you will meet that day. Inner Joy and Peace can be felt in a person's eyes and smile, and it passes from one to another like radio waves, even without anyone saying anything special."
